File Associations Broken Windows 7

March 8, 2011

File Associations broken.  This file does not have a program associated with it.

This has happened me twice now with updates that don’t appear to have taken as they should.  After the update even clicking on a folder or file just gets the ‘this file does not ….’ message.  This often happens as the result of a virus attack.

If it happens to you, run your anti-virus, and then go here and download the File Association Fixer which when installed will sort it all out for you with just a few clicks.  This is an excellent little piece of software!

Jerky Video Windows 7 Solution

March 7, 2011

Jerky Video Windows 7, Video Fault Windows 7, Video Freezes W7

This one drove me nuts for a while. I found the solution was to install K Lite Codec pack and untick in media player as many of the options for contacting the internet as possible.

You can get it here: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/k_lite_mega_codec_pack.htm

Go to Autoplay in the Control Panel and reset all settings to default. Reselect your choices later.

Restart your computer and video playback should be back to normal.  It may be a W7 thing, but lots of people are reporting the same problem.
